Hello,
I experienced exactly the same problems after installing Debian (Etch) on a IBM NetVista PC (Type 6269-R2G).
I informed Debian and the kernel developers:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/23/131
No real solution found yet.
Best regards,

BIOS error after installing Etch (Debian) --- selinux
I disabled "selinux" in my /boot/grub/menu.lst.
But I still have the BIOS-error at start-up, so it has nothing to do with "selinux" I suppose.
It is really annoying, but I continue to look further ...

BIOS error after installing Etch (Debian) --- Solved !
I downloaded the latest kernel from http://www.kernel.org (linux-2.6.21.1) and compiled it according to these instructions:
http://technowizah.com/2005/12/debian-h ... mpile.html
After "make menu-config" I changed the processor type to Pentium III.
I installed the home-compiled kernel and I rebooted and rebooted again ... and be sure: the BIOS-error message has vanished at last !
