X11 funktioniert nicht

Ich bin hier Neuling, nicht nur im Forum sondern auch bei der Verwendung von Debian. Ich finde es aber bis noch recht ansprechend.
Allerdings hab ich ein Problem mit X11, bei dem ich eure Hilfe gebrauchen könnte.
Folgendes:
Amilo D 8820
ATI Radeon 9000
habe versucht mit:
apt-get install xserver-xfree86 xserver-common xfonts-base blackbox
und
apt-get install x-window-system-core
X11 zu installieren.
XFree86.4.x server configure läuft mit debconf,
verwende den "ati" Treiber für den X-Server-Driver,
Video Card Identifier steht ATI Radeon 9000,
PCI:00:00:00,
64000 kB an Video Ram,
benutze den kenel framebuffer als device interface,
XKB rule set to use... xfree86,
keyboard model: pc102,
keyboard layout: de,
keyboard variant: nodeadkeys,
keyboard options: /
mouse port: dev/input/mice
LCD-Bildschirm mit:
50-100 horizontaler sync range und
43-120 verticaler,
Ich glaube das sind so die wichtigesten Angaben.
Nun zu X11,
er funktioniert nicht, eigentlich wars das. Ich bekomme ihn mit "startx" nicht zum Laufen und auch die Maus wird nicht angesprochen.
Die Maus hängt am USB-Anschluss, und ich habe keine Ahnung was das für ein Anschluss wäre, habe noch nie einen solchen verwendet.
Es fehlt, weil ich da keine Ahnung habe, sicherlich bei:
- der PCI Einstellung, ich finde im Handbuch keine Beschreibung dazu,
- dem Maus-Anschluss
und
- der horizontalen und verticalen sync range
Für den Beginn ist das sicherlich viel, aber ich hoffe trotzdem ihr seit so nett und gebt mir ein paar brauchbare Tips.

Also zu deiner Maus: Wenn du in deinem kernel hid und uhci oder was auch imemr drin hast, wovon ich ausgehe, dann reicht das einfache installieren eines Hotplug-Agents wie murasaki oder hotplug. Bei murasaki hab ich das device dann auf /dev/input/mouse0. Es wäre hilfreicher wenn du deinen Log mal rausrücken würdest btw /var/log/XFree86.0.log

"core devices" sind Tastatur und Maus. Also versuchen wir mal dein USB Problem zu lösen. Welchen Kernel benutzt du?
Rausfinden kannst du das mit dem Befehl
Wenn es sich um einen 2.4.18 handelt, dann stehen die Chancen gut, daß es der sogn. bf Kernel ist. Dann starte modconf und aktiviere einfach mal alles, was mit USB zu tun hat.
Ist es ein anderer Kernel, dann mußt den erst ersetzen. Das kannst du auf verschiedene Wege tun. Versuche z. B. mal

Erstmal wechsel auf ein Terminal (STRG+ALT+F1). Wenn ich dich richtig verstehe, dann startet immer ein sogn. Display Manager. Wenn du weißt, welchen du hast, z. B. KDM, dann kannst mit KDM ausschalten. Dann startet KDM nicht mehr automatisch und du kommst sofort auf ein Terminal.
Du brauchst den alten Kernel nicht löschen, der kostet nur ein wenig Platz. Wenn du aber willst, bitte schön, wir brauchen ihn nicht mehr.

Frag nicht mich was passiert ist, aber jetzt geht (fast alles).
Nach dem ich alles noch 2/3mal neu installieren musste funkt jetzt alles.
Die Maus habe ich mit murasaki aktiviert. Das hab ich noch vor X installiert und dann hat es sofort die Maus erkannt noch bei der Installation. Das ging vorher nicht. Zwar gibt er jetzt immer einen Laut von sich, wenn ich den Laptop neu startet, was ein wenig stört, aber es ist ertragbar.
Und mit X, frag nicht mich wie, aber es funktioniert. Jetzt versuch ich zwar noch was, den Treiber von ATI zu installieren, wenn er mir dann alles kaputt ist, hab ich halt Pech gehabt. Die Einstellung ist auf 1024x768@60, unter Windoof sind aber 1400x1050@85 möglich. Vielleicht erreiche ich das mit dem Treiber (leider nur *rpm).
Ob das Scroll-rad bei der Maus geht hab ich noch nicht getestet, habs aber schon bei Redhat aktiviert (am Home-PC), wenns nicht funkt werd ichs am Laptop wahrscheinlich auch schaffen.
Ach, bin wieder auf ext2 zurück. Das mit ext3 funkt nicht, hab aber dafür einen extra Post geöffnet.

RPMs kannst du mit "alien" in DEBs umwandeln. Aber was anderes: mich irritiert die Angabe von 85Hz bei einem Laptop. Meines Kenntnisstandes nach bieten LCDs entweder 60 oder 75Hz an. Das läßt sich leicht richten. Füge in der XF86Config-4 bei der Maus folgende Zeile ein:Code: Alles auswählen
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Das Scroll-Rad funktioniert einwandfrei, muss das Touchpad aber noch aktivieren, aber das hat Zeit.
Auf meinem Datenblatt steht folgendes:
Unter Win XP Home, Max. Auflösung (nur CRT): 1600x1200 /16 M / 85 Hz
Das mit den Wiederholraten hab ich auch im Handbuch zum Notebook gelesen. Momentan bin ich aber mit der Einstellung zufrieden.
